Day 1: Exploring Historic Monasteries & Corinth Canal

Our journey begins early in the morning as we leave Athens behind and set off towards the Peloponnese region. Our first stop is the Corinth Canal, an engineering marvel that connects the Aegean Sea with the Ionian Sea. This impressive canal, carved through the isthmus of Corinth, is a breathtaking sight, and we will take a few moments to admire its deep blue waters from the bridge, capturing some memorable photographs.

Continuing our journey, we head towards the Monastery of Timiou Prodromou, one of the most significant monastic complexes in the region. Nestled in a dramatic location on the cliffs of Lousios Gorge, this monastery dates back to the 16th century. It has served as a center of spiritual and cultural life for centuries. The monks residing here maintain a serene atmosphere, and visitors can explore the beautifully adorned church, learn about its history, and enjoy the breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains.

Next, we travel deeper into the heart of the Peloponnese to visit Moni Philosophou, also known as the "Philosopher’s Monastery." It is one of the oldest monasteries in Greece, founded in the 10th century. This monastery is split into two sections: the Old Monastery, hidden inside a cave, and the New Monastery, which was built in the 17th century. Here, we will also learn about the secret school (Krifo Scholio) that operated during the Ottoman occupation, where Greek children were secretly taught language and history to preserve their heritage.

After a fulfilling day of exploration, we arrive at Dimitsana, a charming mountain village known for its rich history and traditional stone-built houses. Once an important center during the Greek War of Independence, Dimitsana still retains its old-world charm. We will check into a cozy guesthouse where we can rest and freshen up. In the evening, we will have free time to stroll through the picturesque alleys, enjoy the crisp mountain air, and savor a delicious meal at a local taverna, indulging in authentic Greek cuisine before a good night’s rest.

Day 2: Monasteries, Villages, and the Miraculous Chapel of Saint Theodora

We begin the second day of our tour with a hearty breakfast before setting off towards our first destination, Moni Aimyalon. Hidden in a lush forested area near Dimitsana, this monastery exudes peace and tranquility. The site is known for its scenic surroundings and beautifully preserved frescoes inside the chapel. It offers a wonderful setting for reflection and relaxation while learning about its fascinating past.

Leaving Moni Aimyalon behind, we make our way to the village of Stemnitsa, a picturesque settlement nestled on the slopes of Mount Mainalo. Famous for its tradition in silversmithing and handmade jewelry, Stemnitsa boasts charming cobbled streets, stone-built houses, and quaint cafes where we can enjoy a warm beverage while admiring the stunning views of the Arcadian landscape.

After soaking in the beauty of Stemnitsa, we continue to one of the most unique religious and natural wonders of Greece – the Church of Saint Theodora of Vasta. This small chapel is renowned for its miraculous phenomenon: 17 large trees grow from its roof, yet the structure remains intact without any visible roots! This awe-inspiring site has long been a place of pilgrimage, and visitors often leave in amazement at the incredible sight of nature and faith coexisting harmoniously.

Before heading back to Athens, we will enjoy a delicious meal at a nearby traditional taverna. The region is known for its local delicacies, including roasted meats, homemade pies, and fresh cheeses, providing the perfect way to conclude our journey.

With our hearts full of memories and our spirits uplifted, we embark on our return trip to Athens, reflecting on the rich history, breathtaking landscapes, and spiritual serenity we have encountered over the past two days. Our monastery tour will leave us with a profound appreciation for Greece’s cultural and religious heritage, making it an unforgettable experience.

• You must be able to walk on unpaved or uneven terrain; otherwise the driver will do their best for you to see most of the sites

• Departure time is usually between 5:00am-9:00am, based on your preference!

• You can cancel free of charge up to 7 days in advance of the scheduled departure (100% refund)
• Cancellations between 3 and 6 days in advance of the tour incur a 50% cancellation fee
• Cancellations within 2 days of the scheduled departure incur a 100% cancellation fee
• For "EXTRAS" you have purchased (Admission fees, Professional tour guides, hotels, Lunch or dinner etc.) You can cancel free of charge until 7days before your tour is due to start
• After that time, no changes to pick-up times and no refunds or cancellations can be made
